Are you sure, this is really a memory leak? There exists an icon cache in
Explorer, which stores the displayed icons in memory for faster later access.

Please try this:
Go through all startmenu folders, then note the memory and GDI handle usage.
Go a second time through the startmenu folders and compare this new memor usage
numbers with the first ones.
