Summary: Live CD fails to boot on Asus P5B Deluxe Motherboard
Product: ReactOS
Version: 0.3.1
Platform: x86 Hardware
OS/Version: ReactOS
Status: NEW
Severity: critical
Priority: P3
Component: Setup
AssignedTo: ros-bugs at reactos.org
ReportedBy: magicalpath at gmail.com

This seems to be a common thing with Linux also, and there are a lot of details
on the net on P5B Deluxe and Linux Live CDs (esp. Ubuntu). However, in the case
of ReactOS I get the following:
1. Start computer, set to boot from Benq DVD drive as first boot device
2. Boot sector found of ReactOS boot CD, and prompted to boot from CD
3. Booting starts, and after several seconds PC powers off.
4. Front power button on case fails to restart PC
5. Power off on PSU
6. Computer can now be restarted.
Not sure why/where ReactOS is bombing, however it may well be connected to the
controlled JMicron SATA/PATA controller, as is the issue with some Linux
varieties.
My system hardward:
1 x ASUS P5B Deluxe motherboard
2 x 1GB PQI DDR2-800 RAM dual channel
1 x Asus GeForce 7600GT video card
1 x Seagate 320GB SATA "boot" drive (Windows XP Pro SP2)
2 x Seagate 320GB SATA drives configured as RAID0 on onboard Intel controller
1 x BENQ DVD writer
1 x Intel E6600 CPU
I'm fairly hardware competent, if you have any diagnostic programs or need any
further information please let me know.
System is rock-solid on Windows XP Pro ... have been running BOINC for just
over a week (this is a new system) 24/7 and CPU temperature only goes from 20
degrees C (idle) to 34/34 degrees C under load... no crashing, and can happily
websurf, run Premiere Pro, and WinAMP without any real slowdown, and no
crashing.
Cheers,
G
