Summary: no license in UniATA driver
Product: ReactOS
Version: TRUNK
Platform: QEmu
OS/Version: ReactOS
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P3
Component: Drivers
AssignedTo: ros-bugs at reactos.org
ReportedBy: rmh.reactos at aybabtu.com
QAContact: ros-bugs at reactos.org
Hi,
The UniATA driver doesn't seem to include any licensing information, only a
disclaimer for lack of warranty.
Normally, I would assume since it's shipped with ReactOS the GPL terms apply,
but UniATA originates from source code at
http://alter.org.ua/en/soft/win/uni_ata/ which doesn't include a license
either.
If the author gave explicit permission to license his code under GPL (or
compatible terms), would be very nice if you can include that (either as a note
in the headers, or a prominent file named COPYING, LICENSE or such).
Or otherwise, could you ask him about it? I suspect he isn't reluctant to
license his code under GPL, but simply didn't do it because he's not very
concerned about licensing issues.
Without this information, it looks dangerous for 3rd parties to redistribute
UniATA with the certainty that they're not infringing the original copyright.
Thanks!
