Ged, If You get an option to quit every minute, Your timer is broken.

The "hack" as You so sweetly call it, in patch 4375 gives the user an
option to kill a hung installer every 5 (that's FIVE, not one) minutes.
If You call that "pestering" You can go ahead an live with a hung system!
Five minutes was chosen arbitrarily, and should of course be configurable
in an option setting in Rapps, but for the moment I felt a fix for
the hang was more important than getting all the bells and whistles in.

Patch 4374, which I *specifically reqested be deleted*, was posted
in too much of a hurry when I discovered the hang on my box. 
It has a miscoding of the timeouts, and was not properly tested.

As far as to Your rating of "hack", I suppose to Your content 
I should have implemented at least four OLE classes and made 
a totally untraceable tangle of it, but I didn't, so there! 
If You have nothing constructive to contribute, 
I think You should just keep quiet.
