hi,

the best way to get familiar with the networking code is:
1, take a look at the wiki, doxygen sites
2, come to irc and speak with developers (#ReactOS at irc.freenode.net) 
- this is the best way to start with anything
3, dig in deeply in the source ;]
4, look at bugzilla and if you find an easy bug ask if anybody working 
on it, if not shoot it down

bridged network in vmware used to work for me..

ps: for network related questions I think you should contact Ged, Art or 
Alex on irc, they have worked on netcode recently.
