we're doing nothing illegal. At most, we're building a directly competing 
technology from publically available information and our own person-time, 
and this isn't illegal by any stretch of the concept of "illegality". I 
understand their foaming-mouthed suits consider competition not just 
illegal, more like *abominable* and *blaspheme*, an insult to nature and 
God, but they don't get to make laws, nor have their own army to send on a 
crusade (yet)

oh golly, that's a new one. First: they don't have a copyright. Almost all 
their fonts are (c) The Monotype Corporation or the author - very few carry 
the "MS" designation. They just have a license on them (note: apparently an 
exclusive license on some, at least for the TTF variant. Arial TTF, for 
example, can't be bought - only Arial Type1 was available, last time I 
checked). Second: nowhere in the font package EULA are mentioned any "silly 
restrictions". It's a very straightforward and reasonable license, indeed
