Linux people rewrote theirs because of possible licensing issues (that 
never were), and Microsoft likely (didn't check in depth. Just saw all the 
function names except a couple are in camel case with a capital first 
letter, in typical Microsoft style) did the same around Windows 2000 for 
undisclosed technical reasons
