I would consider the website interface a VERY important issue.
Especially as it can leave a first impression, as it's generally the first
place a new user sees.
Also, considering it's going to be used by the masses, is it not important
to get their views, instead of the view of one or two people?
If a public vote is too formal, how about an internal vote. At least you can
get some kind of average, percentage wise, as to what the public might have
gone for.
