Re: "Programmer's Ethics Essay" summer assignment

Detect bullying? That is strangely specific. Might want to back up and look at the bigger problem - you can't solve "people" problems using technology. At best a programmer can give users the tools to help them do some task. Reminds me of how a department brought in a fancy new Microsoft S...

Re: SOPA BILL IS BACK

The entertainment industry will keep bringing this back until they get their way.

Have to keep an eye out, or they will get this stuff slipped in while we aren't looking.

Re: Sourceforge now bundling adware.

They should be ashamed of themselves. The internet gets a little worse every day. You already can't even browse to "trusted" web sites without an active virus scanner and less than five second old browser version. With the crapware like this, you pretty much have to do everything in a disp...

Re: Mascot for ReactOS

by SomeGuy Wed Jan 19, 2005 6:25 pm I strongly believe that Windows users are becoming more and more dissatisfied with the unprofessional appearance of Windows XP. Therefore I think ReactOS can pull users away from Windows by remaining professional in appearance and presentation. This includes how ...

Re: UEFI, EFI Secure Boot and coreboot Support

The key ReactOS has is for driver signing, and can not be used to sign an arbitrary bootloader. (It wouldn't make sense if you could) Unless you can get users or OEMs to add a custom key in their hardware, you must get your boot loader signed directly by Microsoft in order to use "secure" ...

Re: UEFI, EFI Secure Boot and coreboot Support

In most cases you can just disable secure boot from the BIOS screen. There are some sickening exceptions, though. I haven't had the displeasure of messing with with a Restricted "Secure" Boot system yet, are there desktop/laptops or other x86 allegedly "pc" compatible devices th...

Re: Suggestion: Move Compatibility into forum

The old CompatDB made it really easy for users to make submissions, was much simpler than editing a Wiki page, and more organized than a forum. The main problem with the old CompatDB though was there was no way for administrators to remove crap.

Re: A couple of changes

I liked how the tutorials sections were a lower volume section of just tutorials. That made it easier to find things. Where "in the web site" should things like that go instead? And I agree that "design" is a very ambiguous term. OS Design, GUI Design, Themeing Design (not relate...

Re: Raising number of users in forum - add banner rotator

Before you start considering advertising, first you need something that people want bad enough to get advertised at. I don't see anything like that here.

Re: "NT-neutral" application

Since ReactOS is maturing quite well, I've come up with a term to define applications that can work on both ReactOS and Windows, known as "NT-neutral." I've no idea if such term has been defined under a different name before but it makes sense if an application works on both systems, whic...

Re: Is a Reactos and Windows DLL mix possible ?

If you own a MS-Windows license for the machine you are using it on, then yes, you absolutely may attempt to place Windows DLLs in your ReactOS installation for your own personal use. Most Wine users do exactly that already. (language forbidding use under non MS environments is only of consequence t...

Re: Does ROS have ram limitation?

Bah. You kids and your gigabytes of ram. I bet you don't even know what you are using them for. When I was a kid we had a glorious 16k of ram, and it wasn't even directly CPU addressable! It was hanging off the video display processor, we had to latch in data BOTH WAYS like a parallel port, and we l...

Re: 5.25 floppies and formatting them?!

Oh, and there are other neat facts about floppies. With the right software, you could skew the format too. I usually set the Y value to 3 (at least on 1.44) when I had that option. With most machines, that made them read about 30% faster. Just out of curiosity, which of the formatter programs did y...
