MS-7142 V1 - ReactOS install experience.

Postby wojo664 » Sun Mar 11, 2012 12:33 pm

Hello
Yesterday, I was able to successfully install ROS (r56099) on a MS-7142 mainboard with 1 GB RAM, using AMD 1.8 CPU and a Ge-Force 2 MX 400 / 64 MB RAM.

testing a drive with multiple partitions

Device Manager on Real Hardware

testing-some-apps.jpg
ALT+TAB-WORKING :-)
Opening a PDF file in SumatraPDF

BUT

Also there is an issue. ReactOS will bsod in second stage, when integrated sound card is enabled in BIOS.
BSOD when integrated sound is enabled
BSOD when integrated sound is enabled-2

I was able do play N game without any issue :-) It was very smooth and no crashes occured when playing.
Anyone knows, why it BSOD's on integrated sound hardware?

And there is a problem with the CD-ROM exchange. When You eject the CD-ROM, and put another one, ROS does not refresh the contents of the CD, and show empty folder.

It let you install the VirtualBox sound drivers? (ALCXWDM?) I'm surprised it let you do that. According to my notes, VirtualBox emulates a Intel 82801AA integrated sound chip - and looking up that board, yours uses a VIA VT1617A. That driver only ever gets tested under VirtualBox. You might try your vendor provided driver, but ReactOS is known to crash or fail on most other sound cards. I have several bugs out there for a couple of PCI sound cards (Including a VIA based one), and there hasn't been much change in that area recently.

Debug logs, yada yada...

Something else that doesn't get tested much. (most emulators don't like switching ISO images while running)

It was a clean install.... (well I added additional folders, "drivers" for example wich contains official drivers for this Motherboard) but I'm doubt that ROS could detect them during second stage install.
It was pure real HW.
I have later tried install the lan drivers, but the ethernet card does not appeared in device manager.
When the integrated sound is enabled, the installer begins second stage, but after a while, it shows a BSOD seen in screenshots above.

Something else that doesn't get tested much.

Let me guess... UNIATA DRIVER? :P
It gets too simmilar to my spam er.... frequent debuglogs about uniata.sys :D

bug 6968

Seems to work for me. You must only put the number in, not the URL. Like this:
Code: Select all
