I would be interested in updating the wiki

Postby DeadDude » Mon Jul 09, 2012 8:50 pm

I would be interested in updating the wiki if I am allowed to... and if it is acceptable what changes I proposed.

I feel it could be beneficial to have a forum just to pre-publish Wiki articles for approval. That way, as new info/changes occur, the forum post on the topic will hopefully have details already published by the devs talking in the post. Then the Wiki can be updated possibly directly from the forum posts...

If nothing else, I'm interested in compiling updated information gathered through IRC and the forum as well as personal experience to update a great deal of the Wiki- posting my proposed articles in the forum first, for review and approval.

thoughts? ideas?

I like that idea. I think it would help a lot in keeping the wiki current.

And I believe anyone can update the wiki.

What exactly are you proposing here? Wiki pages are already by default updateable easily by their very nature.

well, for instance the cmake page isn't linked to from anything- just a forum post AFAIK.

makex doesn't support "world" option (to include boot and liveiso options on command line easy).

As I get deeper, I find more things like that...

I've already added one line to the build page,

something to the effect "you may want to disable your antivirus while compiling", as my Avast a/v kept sandboxing various stages of the build process.

Go for it, DeadDude. The more users contributing, the better!

And Avast gave me a lot of trouble too, so I turned off auto-sandboxing for low file reputation and that solved it. (You could throw that in the wiki too if you want.)

I'll update the wiki with better wording about sandbox features within antivirus programs...

I had never really fiddled with it, personally... I just disable the a/v when it kicks in at bad times.

Don't bloody quote the spam link, that only creates more work for us when we go clean it up.
