Build speed has nothing to do with our preference for C and C++. We simply state that if someone wants a program included that we would need to build, we require that it be in C or C++. Otherwise, it becomes a pain to maintain a decent and consistent build environment.

No, you don't need a password to check out the sources.

http://code.google.com/p/cmediadrivers/
This project aims at developing Windows drivers for C-Media 8738 / 8768 based soundcards, focusing on providing a compact, bloat- and bug-free alternative to the official drivers in order to squeeze the most out of the hardware.The current version features support for Dolby Digital (AC3)/DTS passthrough, analog multi-channel audio, recording and full mixer control.

An ACTUAL suggestion..
How about K-Meleon 1.5.4! It's a browser written under the GNU Public License.
Link: http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net
Just think of ReactOS as the XP beta, Whistler.

K-meleon is actually linked in the ReactOS Application Manager so it can be easily downloaded from there. :)

Do they work flawlessly in ReactOS?

CORE-4657 was fixed which has to do with GTK+ apps. Pidgin is a GTK+ app, so now it could run better (also see ARWINSS-38).

Does it? It can then be a good candidate for an epic win. :idea:

Nope, it still doesn't. Both Pidgin and FreeArc are very much broken, visually speaking. Only interesting thing in log common for both FA and Pidgin is

Code: Select all

(/srv/buildbot_cmake/full_cmake/build/dll/ntdll/ldr/ldrutils.c:2335) Image pidgin.exe has no exports, but were trying to get procedure gtk_rc_reset_styles. BaseAddress asked 00400000, got entry BA 00400000
Other than that, it's very interesting to see that there are only a very few kinds of errors/warnings printed into the log... they are repeated many times - "BackupRead(...) is UNIMPLEMENTED", "Could not get codepage name. "dwResId = 1250", "err: THREADSTATE_INSENDMESSAGE" - but nothing more.

Here's an alternative package manager, called Npackd, that could be used in place of the built-in app manager/downloader (RApps), if enough modification is done. This one may look more feature rich...
Website: http://code.google.com/p/windows-package-manager/
Specs:
* Licenced under the GNU GPL v3.
* CLI (command line interface) and QT-based frontends.
* 64-bit version avaliable.
* Can help one "find and install software," and can also keep those software up-to-date.
More specs from the website:
* Synchronizes information about installed programs with the control panel "Add or remove software" and MSI package database. Allow uninstallation of those packages.
* Support for proxies (use the internet settings control panel to configure it).
* Password protected pages. This can be used to restrict access to your repository.
* Fast installation and uninstallation without user interaction. A typical application is installed and uninstalled in seconds (downloading the package is the most lengthy operation).
* Dependencies [resolving?]
* Shortcuts in the start menu are automatically created/deleted.
* Multiple program versions can be installed side-by-side.
* Cryptographic checksum for packages (SHA1).
* Prevents uninstallation of running programs.
* packages in the default repositories update PATH for command line programs
