Can I just say, thanks for posting about Akelpad here. Since this thread first started, it has become my text editor of choice.
I personally won't be pushing for its inclusion into ROS, but probably for the first time in the history of the Notepad discussions, I wouldn't be opposed to it.

Re: ReactOS NotePad/Editor
Hello Everyone!
I just wanted to announce that AkelPad 4 has been released.
It has nice new features, is even faster and does not need RichEdit anymore...
Take a look at

I'd like to see something written in assembly, like SavageEd!

ReactOS uses notepad and wordpad from WINE and I really dont think that they will change it,but I suggest abiword for bigger texts,
it is already on Download! list.

Re: ReactOS NotePad/Editor
Well NotePad was from wine ages ago. But its forked for at least 3 years now
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

Re: ReactOS NotePad/Editor
SavageEd looks nice imho but seems to be slow on big textfiles.
Abiword is good for Office needs. For opening textfiles its simply too heavy and overloaded.

Actually, that's the premise of writing it in Assembly; It's supposed to be able to handle large text files faster.theshu2 wrote:but seems to be slow on big textfiles.
I'm sure the current notepad is more than sufficient though. One question: Will we try to incorporate a wordpad type editor too (rtf)?

Just because an app is written in pure asm it does not intend to handle all things blazing fast 8)
In this case I think its important how its openening textfiles (RichEdit or own control..., Memory management, something like this)
This does not mean that this app slow ^^, it uses less memory than AkelPad and is faster than MetaPad and some other Editors
Edit: Of course the current NotePad is sufficient. But why not use a better / faster one when its look and feel is similar to the orig. NotePad?

Guess I need to reword what I said then. It was written in assembly, with the intent of opening large text files with speed.theshu2 wrote:Just because an app is written in pure asm it does not intend to handle all things blazing fast 8)
