Uhhh, PortWine sounds fun! :)
But, it is similar to a trade mark Wine.
It can give problems...

=> ROSwine (with this capitalisation).

Like the Porto? Nice.

Which brings another one: PowerWine. :)

As a native English speaker, PortWine sounds a little cumbersome compared to WinePort.

Hey,
while I'm busy with rewriting some core parts of NTDLL (namely the Loader, based on old Alex patches + research), I thought that for further arwinss development some rebranding would really be necessary.

I read about possible names you were proposing here, maybe we could do some kind of contest? Personally, I like PortWine, because it actually reflects technical point of view (Wine code ported to NT platform), and is a nice wordplay around alcoholic beverages (as Wine is).

Along with that, are there any designers, who could create a stylish logo out of that, so that it would be possible to put some "Powered by PortWine" onto explorer background as part of the rebranding?

About time Arwinss was forked... :ugeek: how about Wine OS

You know, I really wish you guys would learn to actually think things through before jumping in head first. Despite I think three newsletters, multiple statements by Aleksey and the other devs that work on arwinss, the devs that don't work on arwinss because of technical objections, and myself, it still seems like people want to misrepresent what arwinss is and what its goals are. What is even more frustrating is this insistent belief that arwinss has to "win" over the current win32 subsystem design in trunk, which is just bloody baffling. Where are you people even getting this idea from!? Arwinss is not some kind of silver bullet. We will not suddenly, magically have an operating system fully compatible with Windows just because of arwinss. We have enough other issues, including entire APIs missing, that have nothing to do with problems in the win32 subsystem that arwinss is trying to address. So when I see something like this

I have to seriously wonder just how much people are paying attention to anything the development team members say.

I learnt that some of them don't pay any attention at all :-)

Yah I do not think many people do know what ARWINSS is and that it is only a short term project, also with testing benefits to locate bugs in ros. In long term reactos will provide better support.
Maybe the name should reflect the short term nature to stop people getting confused. Like tempOS or something. Doesn't sound to bad and will cause people to ask why.

I don't think we need any new name at all. arwinss is a internal component and temporary "replacement" of our own win32k component, not more. Reactos stays reactos and a new name will cause misinterpretions of ppl who don't read before post, which includes most newbs here. We won't need a own forum category, too. Why? Well, same reasons as said some lines above. In short, I fully second the post of zwabbit and hope that the guys here wake up now, before we have to tidy up this thread.

May be reactOS has to rename itself? Probably a more environmentally friendlier way is asked for a better promotion?

after windowsOS it is now a whistle-blowerOS or a windactionOS

Thats even better:

windowdressingOS or windowfallOS or or best windowfastenerOS - this fits best but is quite long, the name

Thats it: W I N F A S T O S

- its Windows compatible
- its fast(er)
- its fastening up Windows (newer notify this publicly)
