ReactOS 0.3.13 is very old. At the bottom of the downloads page is a link to get Trunk Builds. These are much more stable currently. Also, ReactOS 0.3.14 is nearing release (hopefully this year), so you can wait for it if you'd like. You may want to try a virtual machine first, like VirtualBox, before attempting on real hardware. If you do try a virtual machine, I suggest giving it 512MB Ram to avoid a memory bug that interferes with install.

EDIT - There's also the LiveCD option. It's much slower since it's accessing everything from CD, but it doesn't have to install so you can experience ReactOS right away.
