0.4.9 needs 8MB video buffer on Dell Optiplex GX270

Post by middings »

Release 0.4.9 hangs during boot on a Dell Optiplex G270 PC, says qbancoffee. See qbancoffee's posts in the "General Discussion and Feedback" forum starting here viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17319&#p132635 in the Real Hardware 0.4.9 topic. qbancoffee also says that changing the PC's "Onboard Video Buffer" setting from 1MB to 8MB in the PC's BIOS then re-installing ReactOS allows ReactOS to boot to the desktop.

See qbancoffee's bug reports CORE-14937, "ReactOS does not start when Video Buffer is below 5 MB on VirtualBox", and CORE-14936, "ReactOS does not start when Video Buffer is 1 MB".

qbancoffee reports that Microsoft Windows XP operates properly with the Dell Optiplex G270's original 1MB setting.

I think we should switch into VGA mode in that situation.

hi ctasan,

I tried your suggestion and entered VGA mode for the second part if the install.
unfortunately it hung in a similar fashion only this time there was no debug console. I'm going to try and generate a backtrace and
add it to the bug report.

I've added another debug log to the bug report. This one was generated attempting to boot in VGA mode.
