Try unmodified kernel with this fixed (I hope) driver. If it will hang at the same place, use driver from dbg subdirectory and previous kernel; otherwise, use this fixed driver and older kernel from ntoskrnl.7z

Maybe it is because I only have 256 MB of RAM? How large of a pagefile.sys should it be creating with that much memory? Is there any way to disable the page file or limit the size?

Later... I renamed pagefile.sys several times and when I booted up it always created a new (and smaller) pagefile.sys which I am guessing is based on the amount of free disk space. The first file was 382 MB but the last file was just 117 MB and it no longer crashed in the same place.

I guess the reason the live cd works is because it wasn't creating any pagefile.sys.

With the original r53891 files (except I'm using the older UniATA) I booted up on the boot cd but when it went to reboot I stopped and loaded files onto the CF until I only had abut 650 MB free. Now when I boot up on the CF I'm stuck at another place as shown in the log below:

Seen something similar when tried to load qemu native driver... Wonder what module belongs to this one.

Maybe it is because I only have 256 MB of RAM? How large of a pagefile.sys should it be creating with that much memory? Is there any way to disable the page file or limit the size?

I run reactos in a virtual machine with such amount of RAM.

The size of pagefile.sys is 1.5 * the size of phyical memory, but it depends on free disk space. The code is here.

You can change the size manually with a registry editor (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PagingFiles; only initial size (the first number) currently matters). The "Properties for System" control panel applet only shows paging file sizes; changing is not yet implemented.

I guess the reason the live cd works is because it wasn't creating any pagefile.sys.

And bootcd loops here until memory is exhausted. There seems to be some synchronization issue between ZwSetInformationFile(....., FileAllocationInformation) above and ZwFsControlFile(....., FSCTL_GET_RETRIEVAL_POINTERS, .....). I thought I fixed it, but not.

Now when I boot up on the CF I'm stuck at another place as shown in the log below

Try kernel from ntoskrnl.7z again.

I see it every time I boot ReactOS. It's from this place.

Try kernel from ntoskrnl.7z again.

Here is the log using that:

Try kernel and HAL from here. If it will not work, use kernel from dbg subdirectory (and the same HAL).

I'm out of ideas already. :)

P.S. I noticed that all logs are "abridged":

(ntoskrnl/m

Maybe something is wrong when writing to the serial port. Does it hang when you choose ReactOS instead of ReactOS (RosDbg)?

Thanks for all the help you've been already. You've fixed at least two bugs for me. I'm working around two other bugs. I'd probably have better success if I had 512 MB of RAM rather than 256 MB.

I'll try some more things. I don't intend to give up as I think ReactOS is pretty close to working on my system from the CF. I can boot up on the live CD so that gives me hope!

Here is a bit of the last log just in case anyone else might have a suggestion on what it is doing when it crashed:

Compact flash? What interface is it running over?

Actually, I am not out of ideas. But I wonder how much patience you have. :)

There was some guy (who was not SomeGuy, but just someone from Australia) on this forum, who also tried to run ReactOS on an industrial board. And although he said “my wife tells me my middle name is Jobe”, he disappeared too soon.

If you are ready to conduct more experiments, then I suggest to fully install recent ReactOS in a virtual machine, passing all stages (now you run the 2nd stage after the 1st text-mode stage) and to copy files to this real machine. If it will hang again, try to break into the kernel debugger (by pressing the Tab + k combination).

If it will not work, then, since these logs do not shed much light on the nature of the bug, instead of adding even more debug output to the kernel or to other components, some other way to get to the debugger and to assess the situation from there, should be found.

Some servers have a crash button, which injects NMI on the processor. Maybe this industrial machine has such a feature. If not, then I would try to count timer ticks, invoking the debugger after the N-th interrupt.
