no grub installation

Postby comparotf » Sat Sep 19, 2009 10:31 am

Hi

I did install Reactos 3.10 in /dev/sda1.

After the installation the Reactos did not reinstall Grub in MBR. The old Grub installation maked by Puppy Linux is yet active.

I did reinstall Grub with Puppy Linux because it is easy to handle. The Puppy Grub installer did find and recognize Reactos as a Windows system and install as following:

# Other bootable partition config begins
title Windows (on /dev/sda1)
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1
# Other bootable partition config ends

but Reactos don't start.

a/ what is wrong in above file
b/ is start with the installation's CD possible (my PC has no FD drive!)

hi hto

i suppose that the installation is not complete. no freeldr.sys no freeldr.ini in / and no directory "loader" .

in /reactos only 5 directories (bin, fonts, inf, media, system32) and only 8 files (explorer.exe, explorer_new.exe, hh.exe, regedit.exe, winhlp32.exe, system.ini, explorer-cgf-template.xml and the picture angelus). I did find more files on the CD especially reactos.exe.

the content of freeldr.ini is actually:

[FREELOADER]

DefaultOS=Setup

Timeout=0

[Display]

TitleText=ReactOS Setup

StatusBarColor=Cyan

StatusBarTextColor=Black

BackdropTextColor=White

BackdropColor=Blue

BackdropFillStyle=Medium

TitleBoxTextColor=White

TitleBoxColor=Red

MessageBoxTextColor=White

MessageBoxColor=Blue

MenuTextColor=White

MenuColor=Blue

TextColor=Yellow

SelectedTextColor=Black

SelectedColor=Gray

[Operating Systems]

Setup=""

[Setup]

BootType=

i dont know what is to enter in the section Operating Systems and Setup

We just need freeldr.sys on the root of the FS and ros only works from primary partitions well. The rest can be followed like told in the wiki page.

Are you sure? They have the hidden attribute.

[…] and no directory "loader" .

All right, they should not be installed.

the content of freeldr.ini is actually:

[…]

freeldr.ini, which is from the CD is not appropriate for HD.

hi

I did burn an other CD (I did burn the first one as soon I did see the parution of 3.10 at Distrowatch a long time ago) and reactOS starts now. I can see a big progress in the new version really :!:

But I can't use it now because of an new technical problem.

reactOS did not find all drivers for my Dell SX 270 with Celeron and Intel Chips set, an old problem I did have with older reactOS versions (because the drivers setup for Dell did recognize reactOS has not-M$ and with this error message break the installation).

this time reactOS break the second start with a blue screen where I can see:

"STOP: 0x0000007E and a lot of following numbers

NTOSKRNL.EXE address 808D2DFD"

Hi hto

It starts first with an light blue screen and a lot of lines of informations and stop after something did be made with the MSPS.SYS, AFD.SYS and SERIAL.SYS

with the last message:

"unabel to get file system of D:/"

(at the first start I did find that E:/ is the CDROM-drive and did work, but D:/ did also not open by clicking on it)

I have a second FAT32 partition on the HD with freeDOS and the old files of the previous Microsoft Windows time, that I will preserve, it is right. perhaps it think it is D:/ ?

Does the first partition have right partition type (should be 0x0B (11) for FAT32) ?
