ReactOS project announces it's first fundraising campaign to help support the future operation and expansion of its free, multilingual, open source implementation of a Windows XP/2003 compatible operating system.
The fundraising campaign runs from January 08, 2007 through February 08, 2007, and aims to raise 4000 EUR (or 5500 USD). ReactOS will accept donations in dozens of currencies from individuals and organizations around the globe. We are doing our best to accept money using the most useful and accessible services.

The ReactOS Foundation supports one of the largest collaboratively developed open source operating system.

What will this money be used for?

This money will be used for the continued operation and improvement of ReactOS projects, including hardware, bandwidth and other expenses. A successful fundraiser will mean both being able to continue and expand what we are currently doing, and to have a secure financial base for the future. There are a few directions where money will go in the first place:

Servers-related expenses (hardware, maintenance, support, bandwidth), they give ReactOS: lower downtime of the webserver, faster response from SVN server, and the most important - introducing automatic regression testing frameworks and improving already existing automatic builders. These are key steps needed in order to detect and quickly fix regressions throughout the development process;
Travelling expenses to exhibitions, they give ReactOS: ReactOS gets promoted, more people know about it, this leads to new developers and testers, who improve the process, and make reaching Beta-stage faster;
Misc expenses: Hardware for ReactOS developers, advertising / "spread the word" if needed, covering some of the developers expenses if needed, bonuses, etc;

What happens if we reach the 4000 euro before the end of the fundraising campaign period? What happens if we don't reach it?

If we reach our goals early, we will be going to put a big "Thank You" at the frontpage, and will get back working hard on the project thanks to your support.
If we don't reach our goals, we will have to extend the period or do another campaign later in 2007.
