The bug has to do with the KdComPortInUse global variable.
In drivers/serial/pnp.c we have:

if (KdComPortInUse == ULongToPtr(DeviceExtension->BaseAddress))

But there KdComPortInUse has a nonsense value, not the base address of a serial
port.
