However

perl -e "chdir ( 'C:\strawberry\perl\bin' ) ; open my $x, 'ysh.bat'; my $y =
<$x>; print  $y . chr (10);. chr (13);"

works fine.

This means there is some current directory issue in perl initialization.

This is probably the same issue than those interrogation marks written in place
of executable name, in first lines, when launching perl.exe -h
