Neither Windows writes the pagefile filesize through the hives, I've seen XP
ones, and they also write only the filename.

There are two situations here, automatic (system managed) and manual pagefile
filesize, when done manually those values are set in sysdm applet then written
to the registry and are the initial (minimum) and maximum pagefile filesize.

In my XP I had manually set 768 and 1536 (registry had: pagefile.sys 768 1536),
then changed to system managed, and it wrote to the registry "pagefile.sys 0
0", I have 2Gb of RAM and the system used 2058MB automatically. See screenshot.
