1)Right click in the Desktop
2)Change the color from 32 bits to 16 bits
3)Change now to 256
4)Mess in this way a couple of times.

Keep an eye in 2 different elements:
1)The blue gradient background of "Properties for Display"
2)The icons in the desktop

You will find that gradient background is always correctly painted depending on
the selected depth colours (256,16,32..bits) but, after messing a while, the
icons are stuck and are not repainted with the corresponding bit depth.
i.e: You can find that the icons are painted with 16 bits depth when the
Property Colour is set to 32 bits (the blue gradient background is correcly
painted with 32 bits)
Just after rebooting the icons will be painted with 32 bits depth.
