Fix for this bug

This patch fixes:
1) this bug (but it also resolves another issues I discovered during testing).
2) the ugly fliker effect that makes the notepad hard to resize on QEMU and on
low end hardwares (like my 200MHz machine). Now it's smooth and on Windows with
accelerated gfx driver the visual result is excellent.
