Are you sure? I thought a long name without spaces (and separators) also
worked?
At least I tried \REACTOS123456789 (which definately isn't a valid 8.3 name)

So let's suppose the requirements are:
* installation directory must be a 8.3 name
* installation directory must be a single directory
* installation directory must be directly below existing directory (even if
root)
* installation directory name may not be a special DOS name (AUX/CON/NUL etc)
