[ros-general] New to ReactOS

Yeah - that's the sort of thing I mean as well.
ASM is great for fast, optimised bits of code but is essentially specific to one series of processors and no so portable (anyone remember 'cross assemblers' ?). A high-level language like C is portable and easier for a team to develop in, but will ultimately yield larger and probably slower executables. Of course, in these modern times we can just throw hardware at performance problems because it is so inexpensive. 3 GHz of speed and 1 Gb of memory just for a bit of word processing and web surfing would have been unthinkable not very long ago - probably around the time many of us were honing our programming skills. It makes the original design parameter of the PC - '640 Kb will be more than sufficient' - seem pretty quaint now. ;-)
Sorry, this discussion seems to be wandering away from what might be considered solidly on-topic. Obviously C is best for the basis of ReactOS development. After all, that is what C was designed for !
Kevin.
