Great. removing it from HEAD is all I would ask.
Are you sure that RtlAllocateHeap will return 8 byte aligned blocks? If not
I would like to add in a debug output and failure mode into GlobalAlloc if a
non 8 byte aligned block of memory is allocated... It will make issues like
this easier to debug in the future...

No, I am planning on removing it from HEAD but want to leave it in the
release branch. It doesn't hurt and I don't want to change the release
branch unless necessary.
