HOWTO/burn ReactOS ISO

From ReactOS

Jump to: navigation, search

ReactOS is distributed in the form of ISO images which need to be first burnt onto a CD for installation or for using the LiveCD. You will need a working CD burner to write this ISO onto a CD.

First you need to download the ReactOS ISO image. If you haven't already done so, please refer to Download ReactOS. And download the image of your choice. Extract the image file from the archive into a temporary directory.

You can use any CD burning software that supports burning from ISO images. The ISO image contains everything needed to create the CD. Please refer to your burner's documentation to learn howto burn a CD from an ISO. NOTE : Please do not burn the ISO as a regular data CD that won't work. You need to look for an option similar to "Burn from ISO".

After the image is written don't forget to set "Boot from CD-ROM drive" in the BIOS settings during reboot.

As mentioned previously you can use your favourite burner but here are a few example to get a hang of it.

Nero Burning ROM:

Most people do have Nero and it is very easy and comfortable to burn an ISO image with it.

  • Start Nero Express.
  • Insert a blank CD in the drive.
  • Select the option reading "Disk Image".
  • Browse and select the earlier extracted ISO image.
  • You may want to select "Verify Data", but it is not a compulsion.
  • Click on "Next" and the CD will be written.
  • Click on "Finish".

CDBurnerXP Pro:

CDBurnerXP Pro is a free CD/DVD burning solution. Please download and install from CDBurnerXP Pro

  • Start CDBurnerXP Pro.
  • Insert a blank CD in the drive.
  • Select "New compilation" or "Data CD" when prompted.
  • Slect "File" menu --> "Burn Disc From ISO File".
  • Browse and select the earlier extracted ISO image.
  • Change the settings as per need.
  • Select "Burn Disc" and the CD will be written.
