well, now consider as exercise doing the complete reverse thing - wallpapers using the less colours possible, without any kind of gradients, opacities, refractions, effects, etc. - i'm very curious to see the results so! - a tip for this: bet on colour harmonies and composition balance.

in my oppinion, betting in a fancy GUI would be the worse mistake possible - XP and Vista are nice examples of this - and as well, using MacOS-X, what is missing there were no fancy interfaces, but yes those missing simple ones, like from NeXT-Step or Rhapsody... The most simple and fast an inteface...

Try Python - the syntax is very close to Basic, and it has a good peformance, and has good extensibility as well
As well, Python should come defaultly from ReactOS, as does mostly from Linux distros, and even MacOS-X!
