Re: ReactOS software store
You know, these ideas need to be viewed as though they're to be considered when ReactOS is in a usable state. Of course nobody expects an app store for alpha software. Is there anything wrong with looking to the future?

Re: MB Portability, Customizations, The Core
MS Automatic Updates is just admitting of being incapable of doing their job, though I've read about MS being kind of intentionally neglectant to fixing bugs to use them for computer penetration at government requests I like automatic updates. First off, it really helps less experienced computer us...

Re: Location of Personal Files
Same here. Currently, I don't use the My Documents, My Music or My Pictures folders, though, due to how touchy Windows can be with relocating them to another partition.

Location of Personal Files
Just curious as to where personal files (i.e. the My Documents, My Music, etc. folders and their contents) will be located. Will ReactOS share the same directory structure as XP in this regard? The reason I ask is because I have an interesting idea for use during the installation process. Obviously,...

Re: Clinging to Windows Classic
I agree. For instance, as much as I hate the Rhapsody player, I like the fact that placing your mouse pointer in the upper left-hand or upper right-hand corner allows a mini player to appear. It'd be nice if you could minimize the damn Rhapsody player to the tray, as it doesn't make sense to make it...

Jump Lists in ReactOS
Just curious as to what everyone here thinks of Jump Lists in Windows 7 and how (or if) they should ever be implemented in ReactOS. In case you don't know what I'm referring to, here's an example: http://www.kevinski.com/0000/attach/windows-7-jump-list.jpg I kinda like some aspects of Jump Lists, bu...

Re: Clinging to Windows Classic
I certainly do feel that people need to chill out with regard to the discussions in the design forum. As has been stated in multiple topics, the threads in this particular forum aren't trying to interrupt the progress that is being made with regard to kernel stability. Really, these are just ideas, ...

Re: Clinging to Windows Classic
Windows Classic is really just the theme, but this thread has definitely gone more in the direction of UI alteration. Really, ReactOS will need to implement its own variation of Windows 7's taskbar and whatnot. Otherwise, as has already been stated, ReactOS will simply become less relevant with each...

Re: Clinging to Windows Classic
I've never liked wobbly windows, personally. It just looks like crap, and - as you put it - it's just useless. While I understand the practical reasons for allowing transparent windows, I don't particularly like them. I just think that transparency is used incorrectly by most people. Rather than usi...

Re: Clinging to Windows Classic
Thanks for being professional about it, andrewweb. If you'd read anything that I said, then you'd realize that I said that revamping the UI had nothing to do with using bitmaps, Einstein. This discussion was more so intended to focus on improving ReactOS' UI beyond what Windows offers. Sure, I said ...

Re: Clinging to Windows Classic
As I've stated before, I never said that this had to happen RIGHT NOW. It's just to get the ball rolling as far as brain-storming to better the UI in the future goes.

Re: Clinging to Windows Classic
GUI has absolutely nothing to do with the actual functionality of an operating system. You can run Linux using KDE, GNOME, IceWM or even some prehistoric GUI and the OS will still be Linux and still be as functional as any other copy of linux with a different GUI. Just because a GUI isn't fancy or ...

Re: Clinging to Windows Classic
I mean, what are you guys with all this UI stuff? Really is it the most important part of the OS? To most end users, yes, the UI is the most important part of the OS. I mean, you don't see a whole lot of command line-only software releases on store shelves, do you? Burried by whom? Windows, its &qu...
