afaik it stores the real file under the short file name, and the long file name
refers to the short file name, so indeed it would not be possible to use a
long file name without having the short one.

EHCI (usb 2.0) is backwards compatible with OHCI, so i think it will work in USB 1.1 mode then.

UHCI is used by intel chipsets.
OHCI is used by SiS chipsets.
EHCI is backwards compatible with OHCI.

That is OHCI and UHCI for USB 1.1 and EHCI for USB 2.0 ?

Once there were ... back in the old DOS days most cards were sound blaster compatible ... but those days are over ... since the pci sound cards and the introduction of windows 95, ( so not every game or app did have to make their own driver ) the compatibility depends on the drivers ...
