ReactOS on ARM, a niche to fill?

With Windows RT (Windows 8 for ARM) coming with a fully functioning classic desktop (primarily for office) but with no way to install and no official way to compile "classic" applications for ARM, ReactOS may have a viable niche to fill. If ReactOS was to get a viable ARM port that's binar...

I'm sure it's possible to review all posts by members with 5 posts or less. If they're spam, delete the account, if they're not, make the post public. I guarantee this will cut the viewable spam to (nearly) nothing

Re: Elect a new project leader

The vast majority of "let's make a free and open source alternative to x operating system" projects have barely gotten off the ground. ReactOS isn't just a success story, it's nearly a miracle! So Haiku, FreeDOS and AROS aren't success stories? They're all cloning* proprietary systems in ...

Re: Will not Load

There are reasons ReactOS calls itself alpha quality software. If you really want to try it out, run it in a VM

This theme works well on ReactOS and IMHO is much prettier than Luna or Royale (and the original unedited version was the XP beta theme)

This.

Also, you could streamline the download into the installation a bit like the mshtml.dll file

Re: Reactos development progress :(

ReactOS uses an x.y.z versioning system, with X being the stable "release to public" version, y being the major version, and z being the minor version. If there isn't enough changes after, for example 0.3.9, the 9 is simply incremented to 10. Many projects use a similar versioning system (...

Re: 0.3.15 launch suggestion

You cannot simply force ReactOS developers to fix bugs. Generally what happens in RwactOS development, if the developers will work on an aspect that they find interesting or useful to them. Eventually, a change will be commited that will change how a bug manifests itself, allowing a solution to the ...

Re: wonder why they targert windows server 2003

I present to you symbolic link support. This is exposed as a user mode feature, but requires extensive changes in kernel mode, including the filesystem driver, likely the FSRTL, and the security model the kernel enforces, so you don't end up opening an attack surface in which people can use symboli...

Well IMHO that's just a step backwards. Kernel compatibility i can understand, but userland compatibility should be quite easy to keep up-to-date...

Re: Why not consider a hybrid os?

If you want to run Linux and UNIX programs alongside Windows programs, why not use WINE in Linux? Or Wine in OS X if you want to run OS X programs. Turning ReactOs into a "hybrid" OS seems pointless IMHO If I could run an OS that was pretty much just like Windows, but could natively run bo...

Re: wonder why they targert windows server 2003

ReactOS tartget's the Windows7 KERNEL. The userland IIRC is meant to be compatible with Vista and 7. Basically, what this means, is driver compatibility is stuck at XP, but program compatibility is up to Windows 7. So any program written for Windows 7 or below should work, unless it requires install...

Re: ReactOS on other platforms - why?

Also, Microsoft is supposedly porting Windows to ARM, which may mean that an ARM based ReactOS can take advantage of ARM based Windows binaries and Microsoft's development tools. Although the classic Aero interface running on ARM has been spotted in some developer screenshots, i expect the ARM vers...
