Re: BIG REQUEST: Donate for USB !

Thanks for the replies, VicMarcal and MjMartin. First: the picture in your blog Vic comes from Microsoft and it explains the Windows XP stack not the other stacks, please refer to MSDN for the other schematics. And your answer is not related to what I said: That it's possible to achieve enough user ...

Re: BIG REQUEST: Donate for USB !

Hi Haos and thanks for the reply. But this is not an answer: There are several USB stacks on Windows and if you want to provide one of them, the best is to provide at least the simplest of them in a first step , i.e. this would be much better than providing nothing because as time goes the more the ...

Re: BIG REQUEST: Donate for USB !

Your are driving me mad: * The code for USB driver under Windows was already written several times. For example there is two examples in every DDK: The toaster USB composite example and the USB FX2 kit driver * The code for the USB FX2 kit is here: http://www.osronline.com/article.cfm?article=371 * ...

Re: BIG REQUEST: Donate for USB !

because it has a charm of ... FreeDOS. I really like to play with it; but no, it is NOT my main desktop OS. You should, at least since many years you would have access to NTFS partitions, USB and since one year open source USB an WIFI for two common kind of cards. You can also launch some Win32 app...

Re: protected mode

Hi Gargo, A Windows program works in userland and never have to enter protected mode and exit it. Such behaviour could be seen in DOS programs. An easy way to do that is to use a DOS extender, there are several the most famous IMO is HX DOS extender. OsDev is also a nice place to find this kind of i...

Re: Windows XP USB WDM driver template

Thanks for the comment. I didn't claimed anything, I used the word "template". And adding USB support to Reactos as ordinary users expect it, is certainly a different thing than implementing a USB driver. Anyway someone of the art should have recognized there is more in this template than ...

Windows XP USB WDM driver template

Hi, This is probably another stupid idea from me but I wrote a Windows XP USB WDM driver template in the Wiki at: http://www.reactos.org/wiki/USB Normally what is needed now is to fill the switch/case with the correct codes that can be found in Linux source code as it was done in the unfinished Crom...

Re: Very Nice but i have a few question

* Mmmm Ext2Fsd reads Ext3 because it's the same as reading Ext2 if the journal is not played. Ext2Fsd can't read the Ext3 journal which is the main feature distinguishing Ext2 from Ext3. So Ext2Fsd is not an Ext3 filesystem and didn't claimed it. Is there special extensions on Reactos import of Ext2...

Re: Google SoC

I agree. Perhaps you could improve the sentence in a very attractive way and with an academic look with something like: "Discover and improve new strategies to find nasty bugs: An example with the Reactos kernel and ACPI." or "Little known features of ACPI and how to implement them: I...

Re: Google SoC

Oh if you feel those GSoC examples as easy, then it's, I don't want to nitpicking eternally on this subject, but I wouldn't consider writing a /proc file system for Minix an easy task. BTW: UNIATA, ACPI GPL WDM drivers are already written, the open source ACPI WDM driver is even written by the refer...

Re: Google SoC

@Vic Yes there are counter examples (I mentioned it in my post) but less than you might think. For example Linux is a clone of UNIX but it was used as an excuse or a commodity by countless universities to test their own ideas. Give me a scientific topic that is adressed at the moment by the Reactos ...

Re: Google SoC

Hi, Perhaps Reactos proposals to GSoC are fundamentally flawed: Proposals to work on Reactos, Reactos graphic subsystem or even Reactos/USB are irrelevant. The topic of a GSoC should have some scientific value. By scientific value I mean learning something new and valuable enough to worth share it w...

Re: ReactOS and USB

There was a need for a bounty mechanism. But Aros is a system with only a few afficionados, for Reactos the audience is much more larger and everything developped for Windows should benefit to Reactos.
