Re: Goodbye for a while
Focus on the Windows Server 2003. I'm sorry, but your statement says "...and later versions" and "binary compatible with windows". I will happily accept that I was wrong and retract my statement if you accept that the mission statement you pointed out to me is misleading. So, if...

Re: Goodbye for a while
So it is a moving target. Windows evolves, adds new APIs etc, and you need to follow. You need to research what ReactOS is aiming to achieve. Read - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReactOS OK, from your link (underscores are mine): ReactOS is a free and open-source operating system for amd64/i686 per...

Re: Goodbye for a while
3) ReactOS is always shooting a moving target (MS Windows). Sorry to add to this thread but this one is rowlocks... Can I suggest to jcalverez that he does some investigation into reality before posting? Enlighten me please. (and is jcalvarez, not jcalverez). Just to clarify my question. This is fr...

Re: Goodbye for a while
I think there are several reasons for the statement "nothing is interesting in this project": this statement is false and has jumped out of nowhere in this thread. the guy, starting the thread said nothing closely similar. it was just a random idea of Quim, but even he discarded it as &qu...

Re: Goodbye for a while
Hi all, I have decided to stop working on ReactOS and will no longer be on the forums or Jira. I am genuinely sorry that I was unable to deliver on my promises. However, I love what you all are doing and admire the dedication and determination. I might donate in the future once l actually have mone...

Bu the goal of this OS is to be compatible and have a similar behaviour to Windows, so wouldn't it then suck as well?

Re: Congratulations.
Well, there have been plenty of posts in the past criticizing the project for poor marketing, publicity etc, so here we go, this is a big improvement, even if the truth is stretched a bit
Well done!

"The system's developers say it runs all Windows programs, but is much faster than its Microsoft equivalent."
That's a scary statement...

Re: ReactOS on other platforms - why?
Porting an OS to different architectures is a very useful exercise, even if you end up not using the port. It makes you to go through most of the code again, re-designing crappy code and implementing things properly, in a portable way.

Re: Making ReactOS more public
For whatever is worth, I find those +/- ( like/nolike and so on) buttons completely useles. You should always read the post and decide for yourself if you like it or not. I think there are already enough features to remove trolls and the likes. All needed is to be able to ignore posts from people yo...

There is a keyboard driver IOCTL for that: IOCTL_KEYBOARD_SET_INDICATORS

Re: anyone think a release cycle like firefox might work
Don't think so. Fast releases work when you have a solid foundation, and changes are mostly to the application layer, related to user experience. AFAIK some core ReactOS components are currently being redesigned, so it is too early for that.

Re: Things we can do better than Windows
Actually, forcing a reboot of the system is an easy way to make sure everything is properly initialised after a configuration change. Implementing a proper hot configuration update for some of the system components can be a real PITA.

Re: ROS GSOC: TCP/IP driver based on lwIP
hmm, my understanding is that for multithreaded environments, they just run the low level part of the stack in a separate thread, using a global mutex for access control. This could have performance scaling problems in multiprocessor systems. In any case, it is not me who is going to do the job, so ...
