ReactOS will eventually come with DirectShow (what MPC/WMP uses) and a Package Manager to download your favorite FOSS player.

The new NTFS driver also uses FUSE so it doesnt actually interact directly with the Linux kernel, which will probably make it harder to port across.

I assume its because you 1) need a company or foundation to register it too (does ReactOS have one ?) 2) it costs money and 3) to hold a trademark, you must be willing to defend it, ala Firefox and Debian.

Currently the focus is on getting it running on x86. If you are interested arty is porting it to PowerPC, I think he’s got as far as getting freelrd to start loading ROS. Apart from that and Xbox (not maintained, nor is it really a different architect) there are no other targets so far. I’m sure onc...

ReactOS is far from working properly on PPC, it is only just launching freelrd. Something like Rosetta might sometime in the future appear, but i wouldnt expect it anytime soon.

I agree with Coviti, anything that’s not similar to windows will only alienate non-tech users. It’s always easier for computer literate people to change what they want than having illiterate people doing it.

Anything thats executable on Windows will most probably end up being executable on ReactOS (thats the aim of the project), the difference is that ReactOS will not have the same bugs as Windows so Worms like MyDoom will have no effect. Most viruses/worms/etc.. these days use social engineering anyway...

Im sure the licence will be fairly restrictive if they do release bits/all of the source. The main problem i understand that they're trying to overcome by doing this is to allow *nix distributions to include/compile the source. They are doing this because Java is loosing ground to mono and other lan...

Its possible in the future that you could install ReactOS from a LiveCD enviroment much like what the linux distros are now doing.

The 'Photo' application should probably be different to the 'Paint' one, much like on XP with the image viewer and paint. As for names, i think they should be kept simple and unbranded. We dont need to end up with a mess like KDE where almost all applications start with K, its unimaginative, confusi...

Judging by the VMware image of 0.3.0 RC1 its about ~60meg installed.
