Re: Kernel progress?

Nobody knows the true state of the kernel except those that test and come up with bugs or those that contribute to kernel code. You can test it yourself and find out by raising bugs as you discover them. Status of the kernel might be expressed in obvious terms - ie. Alpha but there is no discrete %...

Re: Kernel progress?

If that's the case then how would those users that said it a long time ago on this forum know when its "nearly" completed? The real state of kernel is known only by core team kernel developers, I'd not trust random users saying this. Do you have a reference or link to quotation? It was th...

Re: Kernel progress?

If that's the case then how would those users that said it a long time ago on this forum know when its "nearly" completed? That implies they've been looking at the Windows kernel which is proprietary I thought that the ReactOS kernel was suppose to be open source and not the same as the Wi...

Kernel progress?

Since I don't think there's a way to track the kernel development progress like at what percent is the kernel completion etc. I'm asking here, I heard somewhere that the kernel for ReactOS was nearly complete is this true and if so at what percentage would you say it is at also once the kernel is co...

Update Manager and compatibility?

So when and if ReactOS eventually becomes more reliable and ready for daily usage would we "users" who want to use ReactOS instead of Windows or Linux etc. have the ability by then to upgrade via an update manager to the next version up without the need for a clean install? I've done some ...

monthly updates?

Just a thought is there a reason why the developers aren't releasing major releases monthly? ReactOS seems to be quiet at the moment with the feature-related news and the news section is not as up-to-date including the ReactOS Twitter account which is outdated. I know the devs are busy but I'm curio...

Re: Windows 10 now hides local account option

Just for the record this feature can be re-enabled if you unplug the ethernet cable or remove the Wi-Fi dongles then the offline local account creation would show as normal.

Boot from USB Drive?

According to some reports on another thread on the General Discussion page apparently in the Nightly's build you can apparently now boot from USB if the post is true. I've tried the recent Nightly's on a USB drive and it doesn't yet boot from the USB and after the loading sequence it just goes to a ...

Re: Windows XP Silver theme?

Interesting idea! What about other themes that lets say were made during Windows XP's era? like for example those from Stardock Wincustomize site would they have a potential to run eventually?

Re: Combined setup

Thanks! I'll look forward to the moment when its been successfully implemented and done especially with the update process etc. I've also been reading that they've been trying to get the support implemented to load ReactOS installation via USB which I personally like the idea of.

Re: Linux and Mac software support for ReactOS, possible??

I thought that most of the current available software for Linux are already available for Windows if I'm not mistaken. Most of the open sourced games are already Windows-compatible the only difference which I find is that some of the GNU-apps aren't available yet.

Re: [BREAKING] CERN’s Microsoft Alternative project

It would have been good if they'd contributed to ReactOS's development. Though I doubt they would use it though due to the system not working 100% yet on real hardware only a limited amount.

Combined setup

Been wondering I heard awhile back that ReactOS had plans for a combined Live setup and BootCD setup iso image with an installer. Was this plan genuine and is this still in the pipeline?

Windows XP Silver theme?

Just a thought will ReactOS eventually have a set of themes similar to Windows XP themes like its silver theme? I did quite like that Silver theme and noticed that on the Black Mesa stand alone game it showed on the fictional computers a Windows 98 interface but with the Windows XP silver theme in u...

Re: Real Hardware

That depends on what you mean by "running" and "real hardware". There are some users who are running ReactOS on real hardware, but from like 2000-2006 era. Surprising my 840 EVO SSD actually runs quite well on ReactOS in AHCI mode. There are lots of bugs, bsods, crashes, etc, th...
