Re: TheRegister: "ReactOS ‘a ripoff of the Windows Research Kernel’ claims Microsoft kernel engineer"

"The sooner this will calm down" It may calm down, but it will never be over unless ReactOS can document every single usage of these macro names, hacks and or undocumented kernel features (eg anything that pattern matches against WRK and other leaks etc...). That would mean having on hand public doc...

Re: Split: complain about mods and some users behavior

Well part of the problem is the signal to noise ratio gets so low.... I mean really I open up an interesting topic and it feels like half the posts are from mods telling people to speak english properly and or stay on topic  ? The opposite of course are popuplar tech disqus threads... where t...

Split: complain about mods and some users behavior

Getting completely bent out of shape over word choice and grammar, while threatening people with repercussions is not helpful. I stop buy here every so often to see how things are progressing and 90% of the recent comments are with respect to moderators being overbearing with someone who's native la...

Re: $35 Atomic Pi (x86 Intel Atom Z8350 4GB RAM 16GB flash)

Actually the best CPU for ReactOS cost benefit wise would be one with the fastest single core speed.. and the lowest price. So basically an OCed Sempron 200GE to 4.1Ghz on an MSI motherboard (not all boards can OC this chip). Most of intel's CPUs that can OC are expensive...

Re: Last LibreOffice portable for Windows XP

"various apps will resurface" That is almost certainly not true... if ReactOS wants to support current applications the next target is Windows 7 compatibility, and after that Windows 10. GCC and LLVM will probably not revive support for XP. Instead of expecting outside developers to bring back kluge...

Re: Should I make a Pinball game for ReactOS?

The old Sierra Pinball games I used to have were pretty good also yeah this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhN3cJrW4s4

Played that on our P166 :) 16MB ram, cirrus audio, and a 1GB HDD running W95.

For Virtualbox just reboot into safe mode and install the guest additions without the 3d drivers. Then reboot...

Re: ReactOS is looking for ARM64 ninjas!

The drawbacks is these ARM laptops only hve 4GB ram... not nearly enough for truely usable virtualization.

Re: Will ReactOS eventually support 16-bit Windows apps?

I don't think winevdm actually requires 64bit windows... its just that 64bit windows is the first to drop 16bit support.

Note that it's linked against the 32bit runtime.

Re: Start menu theming

One thing I notice in applying themes to ReactOS is that the Start menu is basically left intact regardless of the theme that’s applied. I know this is a cosmetic thing, and I know ReactOS is far from done, but do the developers of ReactOS plan on allowing themes to also change the look and feel of...

Re: Microkernel shim for ReactOS or Windows NT?

The windows kernel already supports having multiple kernel API personalities... it was designed to implement the windows API of course, but these days it also implements Linux kernel calls, and could have implemented odd things like VMS etc... in the past an OS/2 subsystem existed also.

Re: Multicore

I'd say you may as well skip MPS most of the machines that supported this are quite vintage, and often enough fail to even boot or require repairs (I have one or two like this). Nevertheless if it does get supported it would be nice. ACPI HAL and APIC support is where SMP work is needed. APIC is a c...

Re: My most wanted feature for Hackfest

The nearest frys is a couple of hundred miles away from me AFAIK. On top of that, I get taxed for each package to my house by my landlord, and its not cheap. The tax is there to encourage me to go to a store but still. Edit:100$ may be an exaggeration but tacking on 40$ is not according to my landl...
