i know that the ReactOS shell isn't complete and all, but i have found an open source shell that might be worth bundling into reactose, it's called Geoshell... this might need some rewrites though, since it does use MS VC++ for a codebase.

i don't know the status of VFW on reactos, but you can always use the K-Lite Codec pack which installs the fddshow...

i think that the loader your talkin about, Freeldr has issues with NOD32 ( which uses heavy heuristics to identify most possible threats) and due to this it's impossible to even emulate ReactOS using Bochs ( http://bochs.sf.net ) and Microsoft VirtualPC. since it will, during install peg it as a vir...
