ReactOS recovers from a low memory situation...

Just a thought. Here's hoping that ReactOS recovers more gracefully from low or out of memory conditions than Windcows in general. I was just running Yahoo widgets and an associated editor, the VB6 IDE, thunderbird, palemoon and firefox as well as all the usual background utilities on Win7 in 4gb RA...

The spying and unoptimized options of Windows 10, it's not paranoia, it's a fact and it use lot of resource.
I'll note that too! :)

Re: Building new systems with ReactOS?

Process Lasso can 'fix' it by monitoring the system for unusually slow threads and simply 'bumping' the CPU affinity of them Thankyou, I'll take that into account, I already run process lasso on all Win10 systems that I create as it seems to resolve a lot of slow-downs in general. Still though, jus...

Re: Building new systems with ReactOS?

I think it is time to upgrade all my desktop systems to SSDs, they are cheap enough now. The AMD hexacore (Quad+2 GPUs) laptops need it most as they are SO slow, I need to find a way to upgrade these HP pavilions with an SSD and retain some decent storage capacity - and keep it cheap. My 12 yr old X...

With a first gen Intel i7 It took 10 secs XD
Current 3rd gen i5 seems to take 3 mins, I just tried.
2nd gen i5 took 5mins.

The electricity where you are clearly has more zap then here.

Re: Building new systems with ReactOS?

32 core threadripper has serious memory bottleneck issues - too many cores for the memory controllers to handle, might be worthwhile waiting for a bit for the next gen. AMD 5 2600, 32GB DDR4 (16GB DDR4 a week ago), 1tb M.2, Sapphire RX580 8gb-Vram. A 5 second boot time for Win10 is expected from a s...

Building new systems with ReactOS?

A few of my friends are considering new machines to cater for the future. It seems multi-core systems are now the trend rather than more powerful processors and 64 cores are no longer out of the question for everyday users. Ryzen Threadrippers seems to be the hardware of choice for the higher-end po...

Can we have a few more Mattermost channels?

Can we breakdown the Mattermost TownSquare into a few other targetted channels so we don't get scroll fatigue. Can this be done? Perhaps: one for hardware one for development (we have it) one for general Windows chatter we already have an off-topic one for general ReactOS chatter one for testing Any...

What? read again - it is about the word Alpha being missing, nothing more.

Re: [Feedback] Malleability is lacking for the user

why it is mentioned literally everywhere that ReactOS is an alpha-quality software, not ready for everyday usage, etc etc... I do wish it was... If you search for ReactOS and you enter via the download link on Google there is no mention anywhere that ReactOS is in Alpha. Not ONE mention. On the FP ...

Re: 58 specific reasons for wanting ReactOS:

"ReactOS - Play Steam games you own after Steam is not usable on windows 10 due to not being a UWP app." There is that... I was told that due to UWP's acceptance by devs being so very low that it is very unlikely that win32-style apps will ever be dropped. However, the fear of that ever occurring s...

Re: Mattermost - up or down for you?

Stranger still, I did an upgrade to 32bit PM as a last resort, I was running a stable but slightly older version prior to this - and the update fixed the problem. Something changed somewhere down the line and I haven't been able to diagnose but it is working now. Thanks for the responses
