Re: OS/2 Program Support

The best for ReactOS is to implement/finish features that benefit most of the potential users. Unfortunately, OS/2 support probably isn't one of them. As much as I would like OS/2 support myself, I guess to find one who is able and willing to do it will be very hard. Maybe at some point far in the f...

Re: 16-bit Windows Program Support

Yes, I am well aware of this. It's just that 16-bit Windows needs DOS as a base. It doesn't realy matter if it is a "real" Windows or a Version for WOW (Even if the 16-bit system itself doesn't call any DOS functions, the applications still can do it), so you need it anyway. Now starting to implemen...

Re: 16-bit Windows Program Support

(this was also programmed from snatch like i guess, or ? ) ("snatch" it's the right word ?) I guess, the word you mean is scratch. The Win16 subsystem from OS/2 was not programmed from scratch. It is a slightly modified version of Windows 3.x runing in a DOS VDM. Win16 support would be the best rig...

Re: OS/2 Program Support

IIRC the original NT OS/2 Subsystem only supported non-graphical programs, which makes sense since Windows' windowing system is part of the Win32 Subsystem The windowing system can be used by every subsystem that wants to use it. There are no restrictions that that prevent subsystems other than win...

Re: Newbie Probleme

Re: Comment on why some games may run too fast in NTVDM

An end user could get a slow-down TSR and make sure it is loaded before their game. DOS used TSR (terminate and stay resident) programs that stayed resident and hooked onto interrupts to do certain things. In a way, they functioned much like services. Some of the TSR type programs included programs...

Re: does ROS phone home

The only seemingly awkward thing about ReactOS and internet is that Wine Gecko integration on install - as setup time is a bit inconvenient for connection. Just personal opinion. This, however, is only a problem with nightly builds. At least the past releases had Wine Gecko already on the iso, so t...

Re: Butterflies screen saver

Not the whole rosapps of course, but parts of it and (judging from former releases) the butterflies screensaver is probably one of it. It was not my intention to give the impression, that it is sure for 100%.

Re: Butterflies screen saver

Yes, compile the system yourself with rosapps included. If you don't want to compile yourself, you can also wait for the next release, which should include it.

Re: Windows 9x's explorer.exe running on ReactOS

Do you have a copy of Win98? If so, then get hold of the explorer.exe and test it in a virtualbox and the latest daily build or ReactOS. Since he has specifically mentioned Windows 95, I guess he want a shell without the desktop update. In this case Windows 95 and NT may be the only options, but th...

Re: keyboard switching and persistence

Besides building an image for a live cd, you can use http://svn.reactos.org/packages/samba-tng.exe to copy the modified component from a smb share. Another option is to mount your virtual harddisk file on your host to replace modified components, if you test in a vm. If your development system is Wi...

Re: keyboard switching and persistence

To see how kbswitch works, you may have a look at SetWindowsHookEx, GetWindowThreadProcessId, and GetKeyboardLayout. Using SystemParametersInfo to change the default keyboard layout is not a persistent change. If the change should be permanent, the calling application has to save the new default lay...

Re: keyboard switching and persistence

Since the desktop is created by the explorer, you would give explorer its own settings. But what would be the advantage over using the ones from the user profile? As for your flaws 1 - 3, it should be noted that kbswitch from ReactOS does not implement this functionality (corectly), so this could al...
