Re: Development Direction
Lets assume an average user wants to get away from Windows and it's many issues. The only place to go is POSIX or RoS. Of the various POSIX alternatives, Mint has decent repute, it already has Windows themes (for various versions of Windows). Out of the box the Mint Cinnamon will read NTFS, and will...

Re: A question about ReactOS code and copyright ???
Any code developers can use that saves time and is open source is good code. My understanding with the Linux discussion is GPL 2, which may allow revocation of license under GPL 2 by the copyright owner. GPL 3 solves this, but a lot of the Linux was done and is still under GPL 2. If copyright owners...

A question about ReactOS code and copyright ???
Hi, Of late there has been some drama in the Linux community, about a new code of conduct. There seems to be some animus between various parties. It occurs to me that many contributors to Linux own copyrights to their work, and may be able to pull their work from public use. It is possible nothing w...

Re: Development Direction
Walt, We may have similar backgrounds / experience. The developers here are convinced they need to implement the 32 bit version of Windows first, on a single CPU within 4 GB of RAM. This isn't unreasonable, but it taking a long time. As an experiment, I tried to install and run RoS on a USB drive wi...

Re: 50 specific reasons for wanting ReactOS:
Can you explain why that is a boon for ReactOS in comparison to any o/s that we might build? (bearing in mind we cannot build windows) This means anyone can easily test concerns about the validity of the binary. It means alternate code to solve issues can be developed by almost anyone who runs the ...

Re: 50 specific reasons for wanting ReactOS:
I'll try; 1) It's not Microsoft. 2) Spying on users isn't part of the design. 3) Open source means many eyes can see what goes into RoS. 4) Smaller operating system with smaller footprint. 5) Development well documented and open, likely mitigating against a legal shutdown. 6) Full compile and build ...

Re: USB safe removal
That was amazingly unhelpful. Is the intention to replicate Microsoft nasty consumer attitudes? You could clarify, and explain, be helpful. Unless like Microsoft you don't give a shit about customer experience.

Re: Target Kernel
First we need a stable kernel and always trying to add some questionable stuff MS did with any newer Windows does not help us here. As soon as NT5.X is good to go we can discuss about that stuff, so I 100% support middings' post. God bless you and go for it. Get a stable Win 32 kernel single core N...

usually named Windows, Linux, MacOS for PC A different way to think of this might be: NT (Windows/ROS) or *nix (Unix/Linux/MacOS/BSD). I think OP may be misunderstood here. The initial post reads to me as if OP is asking, "Will ROS one day be considered an alternative to the major market share...

Also to the guy above.. having 1k posts you ought to realise that if you were nicer to people we'd probably have more people developing on ReactOS than we do now. Same problem over at Haiku people need be nice. LOL    Real programmers (what matters for ReactOS) code, they don't care ...

Re: What is the ultimate goal of react os?
Use Linux drivers, they're already done. Gawd blimey - the uneducated masses - gawd bless 'em. The results for AMD's new 32 core / 64 execution unit Ryzen 2990WX Threadripper are in, and Windows isn't very good compared to Linux at using all those cores. In terms of handling interrupts, page faults...
