Re: Microsoft released MS-DOS and Word source code to public
According to the blog post, they plan to release DOS 1.1 and 2.0 too. Actually, what they've released is MS-DOS 1.25 and 2.0. The blog lists "DOS 1.1 and 2.0" because, according to Tim Paterson, PC DOS 1.1 is equivalent to MS-DOS 1.24, so the source code for MS-DOS 1.25 that they'r...

The open source license allows you to create derivative works, but you can't distribute them.

Re: Introduce myself
The getbuilds page was in Italian when I visited yesterday. It's apparently pretty easy for the translators to overwrite or override English when they upload their translations since it keeps happening, so they might be reluctant to give even more people the ability to turn off the English version o...

Re: about Win2003 / or Vista+7
And what i miss after XP EOS: the windows search in XP was quite comfortable and configurable. Vista and 7 search are not as pratical. That's what I missed the most, too. XP had an amazing Search GUI that allowed you to search by virtually any criteria. It's supposedly possible to search by any of ...

It makes CORE-6774 even worse, so whether this is a good fix or not depends on your perspective.

Re: Double-click to close
Many have said they didn't know about this method. Once it is learned, it's so convenient as to be an absolute show-stopper to lose it. I was never aware of it, and I haven't used it a second time since learning about it. On my 23" monitor, the right-hand X is no more than 20" from the le...

Re: MS wants Nerds to help get Windows XP away from grandma
There is a form of OS/2 Warp called eComStation. At their site, it listes companies that use it. The current version is 2.1 with a beta in version 2.2. :ugeek: I've used the public beta LiveCD and enjoyed using it. There are only a handful of stores that sell it (the only one in Canada hasn't updat...

Re: MS wants Nerds to help get Windows XP away from grandma
but no one would be satisfied using Windows 3.1 if they could have XP, and most people wouldn't be satisfied using XP if they could have 7. I'm nitpicking  , but it really depends on your use scenario. I have seen lab equipment running on Windows 3.1 waaaay after 98 was introduced and bank...

I don't think he was suggesting to take a stance. I think the idea was that the US might impose an export and sales ban on Russia, as they do with North Korea (apparently the export and sales ban on Iran was lifted recently). Unable to purchase Microsoft Windows, but dependent on Windows software, t...

Re: MS wants Nerds to help get Windows XP away from grandma
how fast Windows 3.1 boots ... on my old Core 2 Q6600 That's ironic :D Windows 3.1 is long history, Q6600 is my second best machine :) It's my second best machine, too. I was expecting a much bigger boost than I got when I bought my i7 3770; I could still be happily using my Q6600 as my primary com...

You should see how fast Windows 3.1 boots from a CompactFlash card using a CF-to-IDE adapter on my old Core 2 Q6600 compared to Windows XP on the SSD in my Core i7 3770. It's easily 5 times faster even on slower hardware.

Re: Why is it taking so long?
I hate Windows 7 with a passion. Most people love Windows 7 with a passion. I found the transition from XP to 7 to be extremely easy, and the only thing I had to give up was Windows XP's awesome search UI. On the rare occasions when I wanted or needed to use XP in the early days after the change, I...

Re: First boot = BSOD
And by the way I suggest that if there are any win*** files/commands they should be renamed with for example ros*** because for me ROS is not a clone of Windows - it is NT based independent system. 8-) They have to be named win*** for compatibility reasons. There are any number of programs that dep...

Shift - Print Scrn on my keyboard, or Paste or Paste From in Paint does not work. Am I doing something wrong? Shift+Print Screen = System Request. In Windows, Print Screen captures the entire desktop and Alt+Print Screen captures the application that has focus. I'm not able to get either to work in...
