just out of interest, how can a html engine make a computer more likely to be attacked? Quite easily. The problem is not so much the html (buffer overflows and faulty libraries aside) as it is one component which has probably caused the most damage to windows in history: (queue the ominous backgrou...

I totally agree with Elledan on his views on Linux. HAVE U TRIED FEDORA, LINUX IS GOOD ON DESKTOPS BETTER THEN WIN$HIT Whoa. Cut the Caps, Kid. I don't think there exists a single soul that hasn't tried out Fedora yet, but I'm gonna stick to WIN$H*T, thank you (or ReactOS, in the not-too-far future)...

FreeDOS-32 is in its infancy. Currently it can't even run simple DOS applications I agree. Compiling FreeDOS code with 32bit compiler is so difficult that it gave birth to a new project FreeDOS-32 (I tried compiling FreeDOS code with MinGW with no success) That doesn't necessarily mean that FreeDOS...

The best audio player by far is XMPlay (http://www.un4seen.com/xmplay.html). It doesn't work under ReactOS yet, however (at least not in my current revision). Something tells me that It's gonna be able to run soon.

The important thing is that for more people to use ReactOS, It should not be looked upon as an OS that is 'just for techies', which is one of the reasons that linux has failed visibly at gaining share in the desktop market. Most people think of Linux as hard-to-use, and even though this is mostly no...

Also, Run As can not be used for everything. Things like changing filetype association and system time still require you to be logged on as an administrator.

I voted for 2006 but I believe that it will probably even be sooner. I'm going to be buying a new computer within about a month, and I think I'm going to dual boot ros with windows and then slowly convert completely to ros over time. I can't wait until the blessed day that I can finally delete windo...

VB is dead. Even MS sees that and has created VB.NET which has nothing to do with VB6 - except some libraries and the same synthax. Hmm... that is hard to accept. In the computing world, nothing is ever 'dead'. The 8088 is still alive (real mode, anyone?). DOS is still alive. Heck, CP/M is still al...

Except that the GNU project is not involved in Wine. Ooops! my mistake, sorry. Anyone can put just about anything in wikipedia, that doesn't make it correct. The Wine people themselves are a bit sensitive to this issue and will tell you that it should be Wine Is Not an Emulator Ok, so now that anyo...

Before people start saying how much better the ReactOS will be than Wine, be aware that those same Wine libraries are used in the ReactOS. The difference is that instead of having to translate requests to something Linux would understand, Wine converts Windows library calls to something the ReactOS...

I don't know eros, but maybe it can be done like this: The user is asked to enter the admin pass when a program tries to do think that the current user is not allow to (insteed of the "you don't have the rights to do that"-prompt) I like that. That is definately something windows lacks, a...

Next off, it's going to be ROS is Open Source or something.

Maybe nobody knows the answer to your question ;) About win32k internal structure, I have yet to find a valuable, definitive resource on the net. There are lots of books you can get about it, though (just check out the ReactOS credits -- yes, even the devs had to start somewhere!). If you want to he...

While using their code may be beneficial, it is probably better to just share knowledge and experience. A subsystem is probably mostly incompatible with most of their sources anyway. In my view, solid knowledge of DOS interrupts, memory management, etc... (which few people have) is much more valuabl...
