Re: Re: Mascot for ReactOS
Yeah, I had to look closer to see the USB "trident" logo.

Re: Re: Mascot for ReactOS
Why is the girl cutting herself? Oh, never heard of "sawing" USB. So a Russian pun. But the more I think of it, the more it makes sense since, in the US, we do have a tool that is called a hacksaw. And yes, our USB code is still a bit "hacky."

Re: What would happen to the ReactOS project if Microsoft decided to make Windows open source, and will it ever happen?
That's the whole point. NOT all core components are THEIRS to "open source", and they cannot cleanly separate them without having to re-develop parts. I just gave an example, but the issue is general. It has to do with the problem that licenses can be given for specific usage manners... b...
Re: POS
I imagine so. Most I had encountered of that era ran on Socket 7 boards, and most used the Pentium clone CPUs, apparently since they were more cost-effective (and also more powerful).Thanatophobia wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 9:41 am Yeah, I think it was one of those Windows CE or Embedded POSReady editions.
Re: POS
Yeah, I remember from over a decade ago that a lot of store register systems used Windows 2000 or some custom version of NT and ran the software to work with the register hardware and handle credit/debit card transactions. A lot used a Socket 7 motherboard using an AMD CPU. On 2 occasions, I told cl...

You might want to try a different supported FS and see if the problem remains.

Yeah, we want good fame, not infamy.

Re: I finally figured out how to make Win7 not suck; might be ready to say goodbye to XP
This is something ROS could improve upon when we do the whole NT6 thing. Rather than have a slider, have a page of tickmarks. The problem with the UAC slider is that it enables and disables things in groups. A power user would rather be able to alter security settings one at a time. So someone can a...

Re: exFAT filesystem and specifications to be open-sourced by Microsoft
Yeah, sadly, it won't help us. The older tech we are using is protected by attrition (ie., it's been over 14 years).

Re: TheRegister: "ReactOS ‘a ripoff of the Windows Research Kernel’ claims Microsoft kernel engineer"
I didn't read it that way. By "were," I think the poster meant "were to give"... So if Axel were to have given more detail on what is questionable, then we would know which of our developers put it in ROS, and thus we'd know who to ask about how they came to code that code or cho...

Maybe even try disabling USB in the CMOS or whatever hardware setup.

Re: Re: Mascot for ReactOS
Yeah, agreed, wait until it is more stable. That would change the type of mascot too I think. Right now, a fast but clumsy amputee or anorexic girl on her cell phone, who isn't that pretty might be appropriate. In other words, someone who isn't all there and who'd crash into things. Maybe we can wor...

So a "news" outlet picks up what was said on Quora, a Q&A site that I believe from firsthand experience supports defamation against certain groups of people, and censorship. In the interest of fair disclosure, I was banned from Quora because I dared to question the status quo and estab...

Re: [BREAKING] CERN’s Microsoft Alternative project
Yeah, it would only be good if we can reasonably offer them a platform within a reasonable time. Otherwise, they'd be Linux-only before we are ready to be of use.
