Re: Bugs as development target?

That's sort of how I see it. If they truly are bugs, then fix them and provide a compatibility option. But if they are simply quirks or undocumented features, then by all means keep them as close to Windows as possible.

Re: Blue Screen crash on VirtualBox

I'd also try one of the latest "nightly" builds. Also, since you reopened a thread someone else started, I'd double-check to see if the BSOD codes are the same. Just because you have a blue screen, it doesn't mean you are both having the same error. It is better to start your own thread an...

CPU emulation strategies

From what I understand, there are 4 emulation strategies. 1. Thunking, CPU switching tricks, etc. This is to trick a similar CPU into running it anyway. This is pretty much what x86 Windows does to a degree from what I understand. 2. Interpretation. This is when each instruction is converted to equi...

Re: Wayland gives ReactOS new life?

A ReactOS fork may make use of it, but standard build uses ReactOS Explorer as its GUI. I think what he's trying to say is that as more people dislike newer Linux distros because of their GUI, more might try ROS. So ruining a non-Windows alternative to Windows might drive more to want to try an ope...

Same here. I either see 'we' or no subject noun at all. In just a quick scan, I see no "I" anywhere.

Re: Possibilities For NTVDM and other Sub-Systems

I never said it did, so I was misunderstood. Most here know I'm a regular fixture. Like I said, I know nothing about the kernel internals of ROS (and Windows) or Linux either one. There is NO comparison there, just a statement of fact, as a standalone statement that I don't know about either one. Al...

Re: Ext JS to React blog series

No, this is not ReactJS. And if we go down that road, then will the Fine Brothers be able to claim they are connected to us next? ;)

But DirectX only helps in the case of games and similar. It is not the same as the shell. So the Win32 for the stuff in Windows and DirectX/OpenGL for the fullscreen aps....

Re: updates integration

Why would you need an open source OS for Windows? Just run Windows. But I get what you mean, an open source Windows replacement. We are not there yet, but getting there. 1. You could manually copy over files. In that case, you'd need another OS. There is no automated upgrade system, yet. 2. You prob...

But from what you propose, the "cure" is worse than the "disease," IMHO.

I see nothing constructive in leaving this thread open.

Re: Target Kernel

A lot of the more common responses to this question can basically be summed up as "Remember how Duke Nukem Forever was in development hell for 15 fricking years because the designers kept adding more shit, then scrapping it all and starting over from the beginning? Like that time in June 1998 ...

Re: Trying to get companies to support ReactOS

However, that said, the older drivers are no longer being made, and there is newer hardware without 2003 drivers.

And yes, if XP/2003 has it and we don't, in most cases, the devs will eventually write them if possible.

Re: Anonymous contributions apply in ReactOS project?

Let me share a parallel example for clarity, and in agreement with what Thomas said. I'm not hijacking, just using analogy. A common problem is fake schools, AKA diploma mills. Those are bad enough, but then some go through the trouble of deceiving by also creating fake accreditation boards. When th...

Would you like a dirty pull request? But even worse, would you like to see a dirty one you don't even know is dirty?

Probably not due to concerns of its source.
