Re: Potential problem
Programs should run the DirectX installer, rather than blindly copy dll's into the system. I doubt that MS would allow independent software providers to bundle the DX dll's outside of the official DX package and accompanying installer. In the case of the DX installer, it checks the version that is c...

By "6 month periods" i'm sure you mean Ubuntu rather than linux properIyeru wrote: But Techno Mage, each release is 1 - 3 months apart from each other. A month isn't a long time to wait in comparison to Linux 6 month periods.

Re: DriveWire
How long till ReactOS will be able to support it? I suppose the networking stack needs to get ironed out first. That's a complex question, noone here could answer it definitively "I've asked about implementing the same functionality under freedos on the freedos list, but I mostly got criticism...

Re: 3.6-REL
Opera uses the Presto layout engine, not Trident nor Gecko. Don't know what the blazes that person on wikipedia was talking about. Web browsers often obfuscate their true identity, the person on Wikipedia was simply reporting what the HTML request header contained, and I can well imagine that this ...

If you can use REXX under windows, then theoretically, yes... although whether it works right now is another question

hmm, okay, when I read fork, I understand it as starting an entire new project with a different direction. Apologies for any confusion of terms.

Re: ROS Console Shell?
There would be no need to fork the project, you'd just be replacing one part of the OS! Statement's like the above which implies 'well if you want to implement xyz feature, you're gonna have to fork' seem to be a hangover from windows, where Microsoft controls the codebase, and any changes to the sy...

Re: ROS Console Shell?
Haos, I know it was planned, i'm aware of the NT architecture. I wasn't saying it was a flaw in reactOS i'm saying it's a flaw in windows that ReactOS need not necessarily repeat, I can appreciate perfectly well the justification for having the GUI integrated in the kernel at this point since it is ...

Re: ROS Console Shell?
The issue is that you wont be able to omitt GUI completely, like on linux. This is not the same case. Win32k/GDI is tightly intergrated with the system, not modular as X on linux. So you will always be able to run GUI no matter what shell you boot into. One of the design 'flaws' of MS Windows, one ...

Re: A Reactos Distro - Working software collection
I find it bemusing sometimes when people hide behind 'freedom of expression' when told to keep quiet (or even more despairingly, simply told that their viewpoint is not commonly held) by one of their peers. And for some reason it happens especially so on the internet and forums such as this. The ide...

Re: A Reactos Distro
Why to wait until someone "initiates the thing"? Begin to make it yourself. And to start doing that you need support, even if you lack technical ability, which is what he's doing... Anyway dr_asfak, if there's a way in which a ReactOS distribution could be made that would provide the esse...

I place great store by the amount of attention given to the design of a websiste, and judging by the design of that website, I would say that the nevasca project is noise
