i wasnt just suggesting the 7z format I was suggesting all of the formats supported by 7zip, and at first I meant to just suggest it for package managers... but now that I think about it....

WindowsXP has the built in ZIP support, so we could include built in ZIP, RAR, 7z, etc quite easily...

I dont see the harm in it, but shouldnt this be left to whatever subsystem would require no extensions? What OS does uses no extension anyway? And I think Windows explorer already does this because if u rename something to have no extension, and try to open it, it usually suggests the correct applic...

Coolplayer all the way for audio.... written in C, it'll get the job done.
If you have never used it give it a try, its very easy to use, just listen to music... NO BLOAT
Why run some big video program for audio, keep it simple and fast.

As much as possible the entire idea is to replace things we think should have been done differently in Windows... For me that means replacing Windows Media Player with something better. WMA/WMV support can be added through whatever we decide to use, but I dont think the ReactOS team should develop i...

Its that kind of useless bloatware that has kept me from using XP. Why would I want a large, convoluted, slow and useless interface when a hardcoded C interface works just the same at 2x the speed? Believe it or not but some people like that interface mostly new computer users.. I personally cant s...

My idea had absolutely no activeX in it... its just that many people already have experience with html, Quote: Because I highly like the idea of being able to download something and have a nice new interface for configuring something. Why do you need HTML for that? So that it flows well with the res...

Out-of-memory/ Other install methods

Got a old computer to try ROS on real hardware... All ROS cds give me a out of memory error, in fact Windows 98/95 did too, but they let me bypass it using an ignore memory switch to let me install them. Anything similar for ROS? Currently I have 98 installed, and ROS files copied from the CD on the...

to the security issue.... Lets write the interface in C, because thats more secure and nobody makes mistakes writting C. <bit of sarcasm, doesnt exactly work, but I think you should get the point> My vote is for HTML, or something similar. Because I highly like the idea of being able to download som...

actually for non-computer users, ummm...yea for new-computer users, windows is prefered because it is actually easier to install, but if its coming pre-installed, I have a funny feeling some new user will panic when the user looks at the text when booting up.... But when actually in the GUI its all ...
