Re: RosBE can't Install on Pisi Linux

Do as Colin says. Maybe there is a "build-essentials" metapackage that will pull everything you need for common compilations.

Re: System utilities on ROS

Having to read documentation for new features is part of a learning curve, when the target is to minimize this, at least for the official project It does still need a more detailed documentation.Windows is poorly documented in user manuals side. Maybe, but the point is that people are already used ...

Re: System utilities on ROS

For the rest of the post, although I do like the idea, I think that belongs to the distributions. "Official" ReactOS should, IMO, be minimal and be closely compatible in all of usability. Added features, ... a learning curve they do not want, and customizability means variability they don...

Re: System utilities on ROS

OSX is a copy of BSD with it's own executables running on top ;) Actually, it isn't. Aside from small parts, there is no unmodified BSD pieces in OSX. The kernel, contrary to what the BSDs use, is a microkernel based in the Mach architecture. It does run some subsystems based on those of the BSD ke...

That doesn't exist, and it never will.

Re: My ReactOS Hardware Sprint

Jedi-to-be hosts a one-man install party! Jedi-to-be is a very active promoter of ReactOS, so do not discourage him! Sorry. I didn't realize my install party remark could be heard as discouragement. I'm learning what I can from observing Jedi-to-be's ReactOS Hardware Sprint effort and following his...

Re: Metapad unicode support. Needs testing.

tabbed interface. I really want to be able to use tabs, as I do with gedit. However, I want to make sure that I can disable it on build time, for people that want the regular interface I like this feature too. Also the ability to set the line breaks(CR,CR+LF,LF,LF+CR,NEL) is necessary so we can nov...

Re: Microsoft released Office OpenXML SDK

IIRC, the license is friendly enough, it's MIT. However, that's not the focus of ReactOS, and going from manipulating documents to a text processor is a long, long way. LibreOffice is likely to use it to validate their own infrastructure for working with Office files, but even they said already they...

Re: Response to June 2014 Meeting Minutes (an outsiders view

The point is that ReactOS has marketing opportunities to get people to start using bits of it, to get people involved and to encourage use/feedback/positivism. These suggestions are good ideas (but not necessarily technically) and if the ReactOS organisation was more profit-driven, it would probabl...

Re: Response to June 2014 Meeting Minutes (an outsiders view

What outsiders need is a concrete piece. You don't need a functioning whole, but one piece needs to be absolutely complete. No only that, it needs to better than the original. I disagree. Nobody needs it to be better than the original. Being on par and being free (both as in speech and as in beer) ...

Re: System utilities on ROS

Because what has been produced so far, was more than what was claimed as a binary and driver compatible. Yes, it is more. Mainly because the mission statement explicitly says more is expected: it is not just API/ABI compatible, but retains the Windows look and feel. ROS should have it's own UI and ...
