Re: [Official]Send a cake to Microsoft!!

Indeed, they could, but I don't think they would, I don't know what Microsoft can, might, or will do if they start to see ReactOS as a competitor. They can't do that. They can and did it in the past. And they had to give the owners of the competing system $250m to settle a lawsuit, that's a sign th...

Re: [Official]Send a cake to Microsoft!!

That's called an example. It demonstrates that Microsoft is willing and able to make code changes to prevent their products and/or services from working under Wine. They could do the same thing with, for instance, Microsoft Office. Or Skype. Or some other Microsoft product or service that would be ...

Re: ReactOS is now supported by Bountysource

That's what JIRA's for, not BountySource. If you want to put a bounty on a specific issue (or check if an issue you fixed has a bounty on it ;)) you find the issue on JIRA, copy it's URL and paste it into the "Post a Bounty" box (labeled with "Paste issue URL or search by keyword.&qu...

Re: [Official]Send a cake to Microsoft!!

On 16 February 2005, Ivan Leo Puoti discovered that Microsoft had started checking the Windows registry for the Wine configuration key and would block the Windows Update for any component. That's the sort of thing that could happen if Microsoft starts to take ROS seriously. Maybe it ends with small...

Do you mean because more than one person might collaborate to "fix" one of those "metabugs"? or something else?
I believe it's because it pollutes the actual bugs, makes it harder to find the actual problems with ReactOS' code.

Re: Blog: Slowly getting closer...

I don't know about any bytes from 'the footer' of the file (could be, I just don't know) but most filetypes have a (somewhat) unique (some share) "magic number" right near the beginning of the file which could be used. E.g. PNG files have a "magic" footer as I understood from a ...

Re: What is the future of AMD/Nvidia drivers?

You can distribute whatever the copyright holder authorizes you to distribute, so no, not "under any license"; a license with a no-redistribution clause can not be distributed. I meant that a person who would write a driver could distribute it under any licence he/she sees fit AND it will...

Re: What is the future of AMD/Nvidia drivers?

As I see it, there is no need to include video (or other drivers, aside a bare minimum) with ROS sources nor make a "distribution" that bundles them, since NT architecture has an API and a DDK/WDK for writing drivers. It's not about the need, it's about considering it practical. Some peop...

Re: What is the future of AMD/Nvidia drivers?

Because projects that are Linux centric have a history of pretending nothing else exists even when they offer "cross platform" support. They very often try to pretend that everything is the Linux variant of Unix, regardless of whether the platform they're running on is Windows or BSD or L...

Re: What is the future of AMD/Nvidia drivers?

"Relatively easy" compared to starting from scratch? That assumes that the abstraction layers aren't leaky, at which point it actually would be easier to start from scratch than try to reuse code. Again, having existing code doesn't always help. I'm aware having existing code doesn't alwa...

Re: What is the future of AMD/Nvidia drivers?

I think that there is already some graphics driver because we can see something :) They would be really hard to do and currently probably not worth the effort (thinking mostly about AMD and nVidia here). I agree with the network drivers, since when net connection is available, everything else can b...

Re: linux virus

The mouse metaphor was about computer vyruses. Why would predators go after the mouse when there is bigger prey to go after? Why have a snack when one can have a full meal? It was more for on how more likely vyrus writers would go after something with a bigger return than one with less return...

Re: Why not get some supporters from Linux?

Did Stallman ever stated something like that? Stallman is not a UNIX fanboy, he is a free software fanboy. ReactOS es un intento de [crear un Windows libre], pero la parte libre no funciona sola, por lo tanto no podría recomendarlo, ¡y quién quiere un sistema parecido a Windows! ReactOS is an attem...

Re: Why not get some supporters from Linux?

all the standards and APIs (if there are any, I admit ignorance of Linux) I answer this just because I'd like people to answer my uncertainties: there are some standard APIs, but as it is open source (and there is no intent to keep compatibility with someone in particular as happens with ReactOS), ...

Re: Why not get some supporters from Linux?

Returning to thread, another alternate thread title might be: Why Free Software Fundation don't give some support for ReactOS (or "co-adopt" it)?. Auto-response: Becouse Richard Stallman (and surely others FSF members/fellows) doesn't like ReactOS. Probably is the most annoying and unplea...
