Re: mc (Midnight Commander) shold add to Download!

I don't see a point to adding it, the amount of people who use it is tiny (remember the more options you have, the more you confuse people). Just install the web browser then use that to add it. It's just replacing a component already in ReactOS and your average Joe Blow should not have to try and w...

Re: System sounds volume control

Linux is a professional system, it has it's place. But I do not see it as a full desktop replacement due to it's core design. When I want a system for rendering, media or a server, then I am after performance or a fixed setup, then Linux is great. But when it comes down to a desktop, I want ergonomi...

Re: System sounds volume control

NT6 (Vista) is great. It is a much better design, and people only pick it apart for one or two issues. While at the same time it is much better in so many other things. Who cares if it's just a bit slower when applications start faster cause they are cached, or you can do things fast cause of ergono...

Re: System sounds volume control

NT6 has a internal mixer for the sound card, which allows it to do these changes in sound volume. This did have the effect of destroying the old direct sound system on hardware based acceleration for sound. This could be passed by new systems, but manufactures have been very slow to implement it. Bu...

Re: media player

It's worth mentioning that I installed Windows Server 2008 recently and it didn't have any sort of media player bundled with it. Users who will be running ReactOS on a desktop machine might like the idea of having a media player/torrent app/etc. included but please remember that ReactOS is not alwa...

Re: media player

It has been replaced with the correct DirectShow Filters, Spliters and now I can play many more file types through media player th...

Re: ReactOS Ad

An add should be showing features that set it apart from the rest. All I saw in that ad was stuff that could be done in many many other operating systems. Windows, Linux x200, Mac, Risc, Sky, BSD it could go on........ It should be showing why, that's open source NT. It runs your windows programs, i...

I dont think Firefox should be a default browser. Its unreliable, prone to crash, slow at rendering and bloats at memory use. See? We may take it for days like that. This is why i am against bundling any of the popular browsers in ROS. Everyone should pick their own favourite or we should eventuall...

When reality comes down to it, the only open source browser which is able to access most of the net without a user running into many problems, contains the natural security is Gekko, and with 1.9 is a lot faster and memory nicer than the competition. If your really trying to make a user friendly sys...

You really should look at ergonomics. The ones by Ensign Joe fall into many principles, however your ones fail many ideas (grouping, alignment, white spaces, sizing). Sure EJs are not perfect, but they are good starts. You will notice Vista also has improved on these idea, esp in things like the cop...

ReactOS is supposed to be an opensource windows. It is supposed to atract windows users. In that case it has to behave, look and feel like windows too. Maybe with an adjustment here and there I find those ones much less attractive than the windows ones. If it just the same, I would not change just ...

Do we really need to have the ReactOS Logo on everything?! You don't see it in Vista, XP, Linux or OSX. It's just not professional. I really liked the animated loose atoms in the other thread, it was a reminder and cool, but did not make you feel like you were having the logo take over your life.
